If you are following me or Beyond Retro on Instagram you will probably already know that a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to model in the second prom shoot. The first one I took part in (you can see my post on it here) was pretty much the catalyst that started my work with the company, and my work with other people such as the amazing Ailera Stone and Kitty Gallanaugh. I was, as you can imagine, ridiculously excited to be involved again - I am a big fan of Beyond Retro, and love dressing up in amazing vintage dresses, so for me the decision was obvious. I mean, what better way to spend a fresh, sunny spring Friday than larking around in a beautiful pub function room with balloons, flowers, confetti and so many creative people?
This time I was working alongside the beautiful Annie, who modelled for Beyond Retro's 90s edit a few months ago. It makes such a difference working with nice people - it feels less like work that has to be done, and more like one of those teenage days spent dressing up with friends, listening to boy bands and snacking on sweet treats. To be honest, that is exactly what we did, and I feel that helped capture that teenage, Prom spirit in the photos. When there is a photograph of us laughing, we genuinely were laughing, and when there is one of us dancing, we genuinely were getting in to a bit of Grimes or Peace. I love laid-back shoots, and this one was definitely one of my favourites - a relaxing, fun experience that produces much better results than something too serious or overly planned out. Naomi is also a fantastic stylist, picking out perfect outfits that not only depicted the vintage prom theme perfectly but also picked up on Annie and my own personal taste and personality, making the photos even easier to take as neither of us felt uncomfortable or unnatural.
I think the yellow outfit was one of my favourites - I've never felt so much like an amalgamation of a 70s prom queen, Stevie Nicks and the Abba girls all at once. Taking these was a crazy amount of fun too, including having Naomi and Amy, the absolutely amazing hair and makeup artist, throwing flower petals at us and dancing to get us to laugh. I really wish these were my actual prom photos - they captured the spirit of my own prom perfectly and made me miss it so much!
Working with Amy and Camilla was such a dream, and as you can see we had a lot of fun using everything we could find as props and backdrops. I enjoyed enveloping myself in the curtains and standing on a radiator the most. Also, I can't help but take a moment to say LOOK AT ANNIE'S MAKEUP. Glittery eyes = the complete dream.
Anyway, as you can see I adored taking part in the shoot - thank you to Beyond Retro for having me, Naomi for styling, Camilla for photographing, Amy for make-upping and Annie for being a prom queen with me!
I break up from school tomorrow ~lalala~ and am heading off on a little seaside/country holiday which will keep me busy and up to date with this page as I'll have lots of photos to share. In the meantime, have a lovely weekend!
